Summer Reading & Writing
Writing is one of the most valuable skills any student learns in school.  This class is perfect for those students who want to improve their writing skills. By using a book that they will read next year, this workshop will cover all the tricks and skills necessary for reading a book for an English class, including: annotating, choosing quotations, reading comprehension, themes, and more!  In addition, we will use the reading to prepare a standard 5-paragraph essay as well as review all the major steps for writing: brainstorming, pre-writing, outlining, organization, quote selection and commentary as well as editing. SAVVY STUDENT Study Skillz
This is a 6-week workshop that will equip students with all the study skills they need to be efficient, independent learners.  We will go over important topics such as: organization, note-taking, reading for comprehension, test prep, testing strategies, memorization techniques and other essential learning tools. This course is perfect for middle schoolers or any student who struggles with study skills or organization. FACT has a staff of AWESOME academic coaches (or as we like to call them, Academic Coaches Extraordinaire – ACE’s!) who can help any student get on track to meet their goals. This is different from a private tutor because there is no content tutoring involved (though we can do that, too, if necessary!).
