FACT’s Philosophy
We believe that success or failure in the classroom is not always a direct reflection of native intelligence, but rather a result of mastering specific study skills that can maximize academic potential.   It is essential that all students possess the proper tools that will allow them to perform to their fullest abilities; unfortunately, these skills are not always taught in school.
By focusing on simple concepts like time management, goal-setting, and prioritization students become much more independent, self-determined learners.   Therefore, every time we meet with a student, whether it be preparing for a test, researching a paper, or completing some tough assignments, we teach through the lens of study skills.   The most important part of Middle and High School is not necessarily what your child learns, but how your child learns.  The chemistry equations or history dates memorized in school will most likely be forgotten; but the time management and study skills your child learns today will be vital to their success in school and ultimately in their real world experiences as well.

FACT’s Mission
We are committed to providing all our students with an exceptional academic and personal growth experience.  Each student will work with an “academic coach” (aka, tutor) who will partner with the student, her parents and teachers in the quest for academic success. Utilizing study skills and every available resource, the student and his academic coach will develop a plan that will help the student to set goals, make positive changes and, ultimately, realize or even exceed their potential.   By stressing these skills and by keeping examples fun and relevant, students are able to better connect with the material, making it much more likely that they will retain it.  These organizational and learning skills will not only help to improve grades in school and the quality of life at home, but will prove invaluable as he or she moves on to the next stages of life.   All of our academic coaches are dynamic individuals who have enjoyed successes in the classroom, on the athletic field, on stage, and in the community.  And we are confident that they will teach each student the tools they need to attack life’s challenges with confidence, conviction, and purpose.

A letter from the founder, Marissa Hewitt:

I founded FACT Education, Inc. over 4 years ago, and have worked with hundreds of families from Santa Monica to Irvine, from public and private middle and high schools, even many university students.  I started this business because there were too many students who were disconnected with their work; many were also extremely apathetic.  Students would blindly fill in the blanks, rather than take the care to complete quality assignments, they were focused on a short-term completion grade rather than seeing the bigger picture!  Their work, their interest in school and their motivation (not to mention their relationship with their parents!) all suffered.

So after 4 years of private tutoring, workshops and coaching, I have finally expanded to include a permanent space.  The Resource Center is a kid-friendly place where students can come to receive high-quality academic assistance, study skills training, college & academic counseling, all in an environment that is fun, supportive and enriching.

Our academic coaches and counselors are young, enthusiastic and dynamic, they are able to connect with students of any background or interest, and can make analogies and use examples that are current, thus increasing the chances that the student will “get it.”

Our tutoring starts and ends with study skills and organization – the students learn much more than math formulas or MLA format….they learn how to MINIMIZE THEIR TIME SPENT DOING WORK, WHILE MAXIMIZING THEIR ACTUAL LEARNING! They become smarter students, SAVVY students.
